Ayumi earned her Master degree in Environmental Geosciences from University of Lausanne (Switzerland), working on the long-term effect of organic amendments on soil organic matters. Through this work, her interest expanded toward the soil mineral surfaces and their functionalities and reactivity such as hydrophobicity. Her PhD work forcuses on the mechanism of mineral nucleation relevant to biomineralization processes.
