[WORKSHOP] ’GFZ - University of Potsdam - ISTerre Scientific Meeting’ at the University of Potsdam
December 18 & 19, 2024
In the recent years, a privileged collaboration between ISTerre (UGA, University Grenoble Alpes), the German Geoscience Centre (GFZ, German Research Centre for Geosciences, Helmholtz Centre Potsdam) and the University of Potsdam has been established in the field of Earth Sciences.
This collaboration has facilitated the launch and success of many high-level projects (e.g., ITN Urbasis (2020-2024), coordinated by the UGA ; ANR-DFG Franco-German “Magma-Propagator” (2019-2024) and DARE(Dense ARray for seismic site effect Estimation, 2020-2023) between ISTerre and GFZ ; joint European project “Geo-Inquire” (2022-2027) coordinated by GFZ). From a scientific point of view, all of these collaborations result in about 10 joint publications per year.
Building on these collaborations, a first workshop bringing together ISTerre and the University of Potsdam took place on January 26 and 27, 2023 at our laboratory in Grenoble. The event kicked off with a wide-ranging seminar by Fabrice Cotton, former UGA Professor and GFZ Professor of seismology, on the prediction of seismic tremors and the impact of earthquakes in the age of Big Data. This was followed by a multitude of rich multi-voice interventions, each time involving a member of ISTerre and a member of GFZ (see program below). In all, around twenty researchers from Potsdam (students, post-docs and professors) attended the ISTerre-University of Potsdam-GFZ days.
The aim of this workshop is to renew this fruitful scientific exchange by organizing GFZ-University of Potsdam-ISTerre days, this time in Potsdam from December 18 to 19, 2024. We would like to maintain a format of scientific presentations in which members of ISTerre, the University of Potsdam and GFZ take part in each talk. The goal is to take stock of current projects and initiate new collaborations, with a view to submitting new projects to European or Franco-German calls for tender in 2024/2025.
Two projects in particular will be discussed :
