Analog modeling laboratory in Chambéry
– Project title: Analog modeling laboratory in Chambéry
– Project leader(s): Joseph MARTINOD, Virginie PINEL
– Team(s) involved: Tectonics Reliefs Bassins, Volcanic geophysics & Geothermics
– Amount: 5 730 €
Project description
"In 2020, we received funding from BQR ISTerre to set up an analog modeling laboratory on the ISTerre-Savoie site. This new budget request aims to complete the equipment of the room and to purchase the materials needed to carry out the experiments. The first models that we are producing concern :
1- the study of the propagation of magmatic intrusions (trajectory and velocity)
2- the study of subduction processes in the earth’s mantle, with
applications to the phenomena that have occurred in the Western Mediterranean and which have influence the dynamics of the alpine arc since the Oligocene period.
It is a transverse request carried by researchers from 2 teams of the laboratory. It could eventually benefit any ISTerre researcher wishing to set up analogical models on the mechanisms of rupture and earth deformation."
