Project description

The tectonic transfer from the Alps to the Rhône valley and the deformations induced during the Plio-Quaternary is a major issue in terms of hazards, but one that is relatively poorly understood. This BQR project supports an ongoing RGF project on this topic. We propose to develop and finalise a 4-fold multidisciplinary project on the region between the outer crystalline massifs of the Alps (Belledonne, Pelvoux) and the eastern edge of the Massif Central, and between the latitudes of Lyon and Avignon. The first area involves the calculation of a GNSS velocity solution, specific to this region, as well as the associated deformation fields, one of the key objects being the Belledonne fault and its possible extension to the SW. The second objective is to produce a regional 3D structural model, using one of the current software standards (BRGM modeller). The third point will focus on the development of a template matching analysis of the Rhône valley. Finally, the fourth point will be devoted to a comparative and synthetic analysis of the GNSS and template matching approaches, coupled with the seismotectonic data already available, and placed in the structural framework of the 3D model.
