Project description

This transverse project has the objective to improve our understanding on how rift inherited structures of the Jurassic Alpine Tethys necking zone have affected the Alpine collision. For this reason, relics of the Alpine necking zone will be investigated along the Penninic front in the Mont Blanc area with detailed fieldwork, mapping, tectono-stratigraphic analyses and muscovite, K-Feldspar or hornblende Ar-Ar dating of 10 samples, in order to obtain new high-temperature thermochronological data. This information is necessary for tracing syn-rift exhumation of the necking zone.
