🔵 Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) – ISTerre
⚗️ The ISTerre ICP-MS platform provides access to a suite of plasma-based mass spectrometers enabling a comprehensive range of elemental analyses for major, trace, and ultra-trace elements, on samples with diverse matrices.
🔵 Analytical application fields
The platform enables :
• quantitative multi-element analyses
• across concentration levels ranging from ppt to ppm
• for fundamental and applied research projects
Analyses concern :
• environmental samples
• geological materials
• complex aqueous solutions
🔵 “Clean” preparation room
The platform provides access to a so-called clean preparation room
👉 Geochemical Clean Room
This room is exclusively dedicated to preparations for :
• elemental analyses of major, trace, and ultra-trace elements
• isotopic analyses
🔹 Types of preparations performed :
• digestions
• dilutions
• chemical separations
• preparation of standards
The chemistry room is classified ISO 7 and is equipped with :
• Teflon containers
• ultrapure water
• high-purity reagents
🔵 ICP-MS spectrometry room
The ICP-MS room of the ISTerre laboratory is equipped with an :
👉 Agilent 7900 ICP-MS,
coupled to a PrepFast IC module (ESI)
The instrument is mainly used :
• within ISTerre research projects
• in collaboration with OSUG
• more rarely for external analytical services
⚙️ Main instrument : Agilent 7900
The Agilent 7900 ICP-MS is dedicated to elemental analyses with very low detection limits and is primarily intended for samples extremely depleted in elements.
🔹 Analytical perspectives :
• development of elemental speciation
• via the IC module (ion chromatography)
⚠️ Users are subject to :
• a strict internal regulation
• specific rules governing the circulation of :
o samples
o chemicals
o equipment
👉 To access the room, please read, sign, and return the following charter to Sylvain Campillo :
👉 For any analysis request, please complete and return the form below, signed, to Sylvain Campillo.
⚠️ We reserve the right to refuse analyses if :
• sample quality
• or preparation conditions
are not deemed adequate.
📌 To avoid any difficulties, it is strongly recommended to contact the facility managers during the project design phase.
