Assistant Professor Labex Serenade

University of Grenoble-I - Assistant Professor in Nanoparticle reactivity, environmental toxicology and ecodesign.

***About the job

The University Joseph Fourier (Grenoble, France) seeks a highly qualified candidate for a non tenure-track 3 years long Research Assistant Professor position. The Research Fellow will devote 2/3 of his/her time to research, and 1/3 to teaching (teaching duties : 60 h/year).

Position offer : Research Chair in Nanoparticle reactivity, environmental toxicology and ecodesign

Research Framework : SERENADE, a LABEX (Laboratory of Excellence) network which gathers 15 academic and business partners who work together on the issue of ‘Safe(r) Ecodesign Research and Education applied to NAnomaterial Development’ (http://www.labex-serenade.org/)

Salary : Assistant Professor, commensurate with experience and qualification

***Teaching

Teaching responsibilities are oriented towards nanotoxicology (toxic mechanisms at the cellular level, target organs, technical challenges regarding the toxicity and genotoxicity tests, procedures and sources of exposure, potential impacts health, regulations), surface chemistry and life cycle of nanomaterials (generalities on nanoparticles, characterization, regulation). In the first years, teaching will be done both within Erasmus Mundus Biohealth Computing Master Program (environmental and animal health track), Biotechnology Master and within the Earth Sciences Groundwater Master :
20h (Lectures/TD) UE nanotox M2 BIDT "UE without number as being created now”
4h (Lectures) UE Application of biotechnology for Health. M2 BIDT (UE NPHA531B)
30h TP biochips. M2 BIDT UE Biochips for health research : practical session (UE NPHA530A)
 10h (Lectures/TD) M2 Hydrogeology

The long term overall goal is to integrate and translate the work of the other Labex partners into new academic and professional training course, including Nanosafety MOOCS like e-learning. The ability to conduct courses in French is not required but a working knowledge of French language is welcome.

Research :
The research work will be part of the SERENADE Labex project, and will be done in
collaboration with the industrial and academic partners. It will be conducted within one or two Laboratory of the University of Grenoble campus. The candidate is expected to establish a strong research program in toxicology and ecodesign of new nanomaterial-based products, consisting of a multi-scale approach ranging from molecular mechanisms to macroscopic processes associated with, for example, bioreactions, nanotoxicity, genotoxicity, synchrotron based μXAFS, μ tomography or μ XRF. The envisioned research program should also complement and integrate with our current research strengths in Biology and Earth Sciences which include toxicology (see http://biohealth-computing.org), nanoparticle reactivity and biogeochemical fate, and make use of the IAB Proteomics Plateform.

***Application File

Qualified candidates should submit an application file that includes a cover letter, CV, a statement of research and teaching interests, contact information for 3 references, and up to three research articles to :

Université Joseph Fourier
DIREVA – Concours SERENADE
Bâtiment administratif
38041 Grenoble Cedex 9

The university position has been officially opened in June 2013, and candidacies will be received until the end of July 2013, A University committee will select the short list in early September, and interview qualified candidates in late September 2013, with a starting date in October or November 2013.
