Geochemistry

The Geochemistry team focuses its research efforts on understanding geochemical cycles and processes on continental surfaces, at different temporal and spatial scales (from nanometers to thousands of kilometers). To this end, we are interested in the functioning of interactions between the mineral and organic worlds, and more specifically in understanding the processes active at the Earth’s surface (nucleation and growth processes, weathering, elementary biogeochemical cycles, environmental archives, biogeochemistry of metal contamination, nanoparticles and health), and the role and activity of micro-organisms, for example).

Our research expertise extends from the laboratory to the field. Our unique experimental and analytical facilities (geochemistry-mineralogy platform) enable us to characterize biogeochemical, alteration, dissolution and nucleation processes at the nanometer and Angstrom scales, and the geochemical dynamics of organic and mineral matrices (elemental chemistry, speciation and isotopy, synchrotron radiation). Our main research sites are located in Europe (France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Island), East Africa (Rwanda, Uganda) and South America (Guyana, Brazil, Bolivia, Suriname).

The team is made up of 14 permanent members, including CNRS and IRD researchers, teacher-researchers and research support staff (engineers and technicians). The team also welcomes researchers and engineers on fixed-term contracts, as well as PhD, Master’s, Licence and IUT students.

The team offers internships for Bachelor’s, Master’s 1 and 2 students. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
