&lt;p&gt; &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Heavy metals are abundantly used in a number of industrial activities such as mining and metallurgy, fertilizers, paints, plastics stabilizers, cigarettes, batteries and, more recently, in manufacturing of high-tech products such as mobile phones and CD/DVDs.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Metals (e.g. Cr, Se) and corresponding inorganic nanoparticles (e.g. Se&#176;) represent therefore an actual problem of public health throughout two major features : toxicity and cancer risk. Despite of a considerable number of data, the molecular and cellular bases of the toxicity and/or carcinogenesis of metals remain misknown.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Recently, the development of immunofluorescence has allowed to detect individual DNA damage in each cell nucleus. In parallel, new advances have been made in the understanding of the role of DNA double-strand breaks (DSB), whether non-repaired or misrepaired, in the toxicity and carcinogenesis, respectively.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A number of metals like Fe, Cd, Pb, Zn, Al, Ni, Pd, Cr were shown in a previous project to produce few but severe DSBthat may explain toxicity and genomic instability in human endothelium. Thanks to our new data, we are ready to propose a new system unit with a quantitative scale of toxicity and cancerrisks due to any exposure of metal inducing HEMI-DSBs similarly to the radioprotection Sievert system., ATM, a major actor of the DNA damage repair and signalling, goes from the cytoplasm to the nucleus to control the HEMI-DSB repair via end-joining pathway and inhibits the MRE11 nuclease activity to prevent genomic instability. Interestingly, our groups pointed out that the level of active ATM forms in the cytoplasm and in nucleus are specific to the tissue.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Hence, we proposed here a very ambitious project called HEMI-BREAKS-T that aims to investigate : the chromosome and DNA damage repair and signalling dependent from ATM protein together with the metal speciation in two systems contaminated with metals : HUMAN (brain, skin, lung, liver and blood human cells) and ECOSYSTEM (brain,liver, gonad fish cells).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;To this aim, 4 partners will be gathered in this project : the INSERM&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The effect of different forms of a given metal (Cr(III), Cr(V) and Cr(VI)) are investigated as well as nanoparticles (e.g. Cr2O3 and Se&#176;).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;These studies include :
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Metal speciation, by ESR spectroscopy, in cells contaminated by Cr III, V and VI,
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; DSB Repair and Signaling,&lt;br class='autobr' /&gt;
Other groups within the programme investigate :
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Cytogenetics
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Consequeces to the ecosystems&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This project will provide, for the first time, a coherent and original body of datarelevant for a large number of tissues to better understand the molecular and cellular responses to metal response with the most recent concepts and technology in biochemistry.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The long term overall goal is to integrate and translate the work of the other Labex partners into new academic and professional training course, including Nanosafety MOOCS like e-learning. The research work will be part of the SERENADE Labex project, and will be done in&lt;br class='autobr' /&gt;
collaboration with the industrial and academic partners. It will be conducted within one or two Laboratory of the University of Grenoble campus. The candidate is expected to establish a strong research program in toxicology and ecodesign of new nanomaterial-based products, consisting of a multi-scale approach ranging from molecular mechanisms to macroscopic processes associated with, for example, bioreactions, nanotoxicity, genotoxicity, synchrotron based &#956;XAFS, &#956; tomography or &#956; XRF. &lt;p&gt;The long term overall goal is to integrate and translate the work of the other Labex partners into new academic and professional training course, including Nanosafety MOOCS like e-learning. The ability to conduct courses in French is not required but a working knowledge of French language is welcome.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Research :&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br class='autobr' /&gt;
The research work will be part of the SERENADE Labex project, and will be done in&lt;br class='autobr' /&gt;
collaboration with the industrial and academic partners. It will be conducted within one or two Laboratory of the University of Grenoble campus. The candidate is expected to establish a strong research program in toxicology and ecodesign of new nanomaterial-based products, consisting of a multi-scale approach ranging from molecular mechanisms to macroscopic processes associated with, for example, bioreactions, nanotoxicity, genotoxicity, synchrotron based &#956;XAFS, &#956; tomography or &#956; XRF. The envisioned research program should also complement and integrate with our current research strengths in Biology and Earth Sciences which include toxicology (see &lt;a href=&#034;http://biohealth-computing.org&#034; class=&#034;spip_url spip_out auto&#034; rel=&#034;nofollow external&#034;&gt;http://biohealth-computing.org&lt;/a&gt;), nanoparticle reactivity and biogeochemical fate, and make use of the IAB Proteomics Plateform.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Le but du labex SERENADE est de cr&#233;er un r&#233;seau dynamique entre laboratories de recherche et industriels sur le design des nanomat&#233;riaux de demain, afin d'assurer leur suret&#233; par rapport &#224; l'homme et &#224; l'environnement. Il comprend deux volets, l'un sur la recherche et le second sur la formation.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Les principaux objectifs du programme de recherche sont les suivants : &lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; d&#233;velopper des produits contenant des nanomat&#233;riaux ou des mat&#233;riaux nanostructur&#233;s prenant mieux en compte les risques (exposition et danger) tout au long du cycle de vie, &lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; s&#233;lectionner les tests permettant &#224; une soci&#233;t&#233; de conceptualiser le design en optimisant les param&#232;tres n&#233;cessaires &#224; la mise sur le march&#233;, &lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; d&#233;velopper des proc&#233;d&#233;s innovants concernant la fin de vie : recyclage, traitement des effluents et des eaux de surface.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Le projet r&#233;unit des comp&#233;tences et des infrastructures d'exp&#233;rimentation uniques, indispensables aux acteurs fran&#231;ais du domaine pour mener &#224; bien des projets de recherche, d&#233;veloppement et innovation et se positionner &#224; l'&#233;chelle mondiale sur la th&#233;matique des nano-mat&#233;riaux (EquipexNanoID, iCeintm&#233;socosmes, Ibisa, Animex, NanoBench et Rovaltain).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The aim of the SERENADE lab is to create a dynamic network between research and industrial laboratories on the design of tomorrow's nanomaterials, in order to ensure their safety in relation to man and the environment. It has two components, one on research and the other on training.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The main objectives of the research program are as follows :&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul class=&#034;spip&#034; role=&#034;list&#034;&gt;&lt;li&gt; develop products containing nanomaterials or nanostructured materials that take better account of risks (exposure and hazard) throughout the life cycle,&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; select the tests that allow a company to conceptualize the design by optimizing the parameters necessary to bring it to market,&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; develop innovative end-of-life processes : recycling, effluent and surface water treatment.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The project brings together unique skills and experimentation infrastructures, essential for French actors in the field to carry out research, development and innovation projects and to position themselves on a global scale on the theme of nanomaterials (EquipexNanoID, iCeintm&#233;socosmes, Ibisa, Animex, NanoBench and Rovaltain).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The education component aims to provide adapted training to master the processes and new tools developed in the field of nanomaterials, in the form of university curricula, thematic schools, exchange programs, etc.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;L'equipexNanoID est une plateforme nationale d'identification chimique et de localisation spatiale des nanomat&#233;riaux et nanoparticules dans les syst&#232;mes complexes &#224; l'&#233;tat solide, liquide et gazeux (sols, s&#233;diments, milieux aquatiques, organismes, organes, cellules, organites) pour la toxicologie et l'&#233;cotoxicologie, afin de r&#233;pondre aux questions actuelles sur le risque associ&#233; &#224; la pr&#233;sence de ces nanomat&#233;riaux et nanoparticules manufactur&#233;es dans le milieu naturel et dans les organismes vivants.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Les &#233;quipements sont constitu&#233;s principalement : &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1. Au LITEN : d'un Microscope Electronique &#224; Transmission coupl&#233; &#224; la microanalyse, &#233;quip&#233; d'un mode cryog&#233;nique, d'un outil de s&#233;paration FFF coupl&#233; &#224; une ICP-MS (LITEN)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;2. Au LCP : d'un spectrom&#232;tre de masse pour les a&#233;rosols (Api-TOFMS)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;3. Au CEREGE : des imageurs X en 3D avec des r&#233;solutions de 50 nm et 2&#181;m&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The equipexNanoID is a national platform for the chemical identification and spatial location of nanomaterials and nanoparticles in complex solid, liquid and gaseous systems (soils, sediments, aquatic environments, organisms, organs, cells, organelles) for toxicology and ecotoxicology, in order to answer current questions on the risk associated with the presence of these nanomaterials and nanoparticles manufactured in the natural environment and in living organisms.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The equipment consists mainly of :&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;1. At LITEN : from a Transmission Electron Microscope coupled to microanalysis, equipped with a cryogenic mode, an FFF separation tool coupled to an ICP-MS (LITEN)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;2. At LCP : a mass spectrometer for aerosols (Api-TOFMS)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;3. At CEREGE : 3D X-ray imagers with resolutions of 50 nm and 2&#181;m&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;4. A ISTerre : from a nanozetasizer to measure the size and zeta potential of particles in a liquid medium.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Heavy metals are abundantly used in a number of industrial activities such as mining and metallurgy, fertilizers, paints, plastics stabilizers, cigarettes, batteries and, more recently, in manufacturing of high-tech products such as mobile phones and CD/DVDs.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Metals (e.g. Cr, Se) and corresponding inorganic nanoparticles (e.g. Se&#176;) represent therefore an actual problem of public health throughout two major features : toxicity and cancer risk. Despite of a considerable number of data, the molecular and cellular bases of the toxicity and/or carcinogenesis of metals remain misknown.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Recently, the development of immunofluorescence has allowed to detect individual DNA damage in each cell nucleus. In parallel, new advances have been made in the understanding of the role of DNA double-strand breaks (DSB), whether non-repaired or misrepaired, in the toxicity and carcinogenesis, respectively.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;A number of metals like Fe, Cd, Pb, Zn, Al, Ni, Pd, Cr were shown in a previous project to produce few but severe DSBthat may explain toxicity and genomic instability in human endothelium. Thanks to our new data, we are ready to propose a new system unit with a quantitative scale of toxicity and cancerrisks due to any exposure of metal inducing HEMI-DSBs similarly to the radioprotection Sievert system., ATM, a major actor of the DNA damage repair and signalling, goes from the cytoplasm to the nucleus to control the HEMI-DSB repair via end-joining pathway and inhibits the MRE11 nuclease activity to prevent genomic instability. Interestingly, our groups pointed out that the level of active ATM forms in the cytoplasm and in nucleus are specific to the tissue.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Hence, we proposed here a very ambitious project called HEMI-BREAKS-T that aims to investigate : the chromosome and DNA damage repair and signalling dependent from ATM protein together with the metal speciation in two systems contaminated with metals : HUMAN (brain, skin, lung, liver and blood human cells) and ECOSYSTEM (brain,liver, gonad fish cells).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;To this aim, 4 partners will be gathered in this project : the INSERM&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The effect of different forms of a given metal (Cr(III), Cr(V) and Cr(VI)) are investigated as well as nanoparticles (e.g. Cr2O3 and Se&#176;).&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;These studies include :
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Metal speciation, by ESR spectroscopy, in cells contaminated by Cr III, V and VI,
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; DSB Repair and Signaling,&lt;br class='autobr' /&gt;
Other groups within the programme investigate :
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Cytogenetics
&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span class=&#034;spip-puce ltr&#034;&gt;&lt;b&gt;&#8211;&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt; Consequeces to the ecosystems&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;This project will provide, for the first time, a coherent and original body of datarelevant for a large number of tissues to better understand the molecular and cellular responses to metal response with the most recent concepts and technology in biochemistry.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/div&gt;
