Laurent Charlet has over 160 published peer reviewed papers (h index : 41 ; Times Cited by ISI citation index summ : > 4400 without autocitations). His research focuses on the study of processes taking place in near-surface natural environments. More specifically, he investigates (bio)geochemical mechanisms affecting the fate of trace elements such as selenium, mercury, arsenic, uranium and silver in soil, aquifer and into the human body. These processes are studied under varying redox conditions by wet chemistry, XAS and ESR spectroscopy, neutron scattering and Mössbauer spectroscopy. He also works on the genomic effect of new contaminants such as nanoparticles and pesticides and on the sorption of other important environmental actors, such as prion proteins, antibiotics and gases (H2, CO2) on calcite, clay and biochars. Laurent Charlet obtained a MSc and PhD from the University of California, Riverside. After two postdoc in Switzerland, at EAWAG-ETH (Water Federal Research Institute) and at University Bern (Chemistry Department), he joined the University of Grenoble in 1992, where he is now Outstanding Professor (PR CE2). He has a long experience of collaboration with national authorities (e.g., Ministry of Environment, Nuclear Waste Management Agencies) and private companies, as well as within international research programs (FP 5, 6&7, H2020). He has been P.I. of the IFCPAR project (on “Arsenic Geochemistry on West Bengal”), co-PI of the AsiaLink CALIBRE FP7 project (on arsenic in SE Asia groundwaters), “Field Studies” (AQUATRAIN FP7 project) & “Processes” (COST Action 67 “Chemodynamics in natural porous medium“) Working Group Leader, French Representative to COST Action 629 “Water Pollution in Porous Natural Media at different Scales, Fate Impact and Indicators”, and member of FATEPRIDE, FUNMIG (FP5 and FP6). He heads a group currently employing two Postdoctoral Fellows and three Ph.D. students. He is co-Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Hydrology.
