Rock Alert



Objectives : Raise awareness about rockfall hazards through cliff observations, simulations, and block measurements.

For : Middle and High School Students

Cliffs are not just spectacular… they can be dangerous! In this workshop, students will learn about the risks associated with rockfalls and the methods used to detect and measure them, such as seismic monitoring and photogrammetry/Lidar. They will observe the cliffs of St Eynard directly using binoculars and build a 3D model of a cliff. Using this model, they will take measurements with a Lidar on an iPad and simulate rockfalls of different sizes and heights to study the seismic signals generated. An interactive workshop combining field observation, hands-on experiments, and scientific modeling to better understand rockfall hazards.
