Abiotic reactivity of minerals at elevated H2 concentrations Experiments and reactive transport modeling applied to deep aquifers

The proposed PhD thesis aims at exploring fluid-rock alteration processes at play within deep aquifers pressurized with H2. The purpose of the research deals with underground hydrogen storage as part of the energy transition.

Duration: 20 months, start June 2022 (could be adapted). Supervision: Pierre Sabatier (EDYTEM, Chambéry) ; Julia De Sigoyer (ISTERRE, Grenoble) Location: Le Bourget du lac (close to Chambéry), NW Alps, France Profile: The candidate should have completed a thesis in sedimentary geology and have expertise in sedimentology and geochemistry and if possible, experience with seismic reflection data analysis.

The Institut des Sciences de la Terre at Grenoble (ISTerre/CNRS), France is opening a Postdoc position in the framework of the ERC project SEISMAZE. This project is aimed at studies of slow transient deformation processes in geological systems based on seismological observations and is, in particular, focused on low-frequency tremors and earthquakes observed in active faults and volcanic systems.
