Michel Campillo appointed member of the ERC Scientific Council
Michel Campillo, Professor Emeritus of Geophysics at the University of Grenoble Alpes and researcher at ISTerre, has been appointed a member of the Scientific Council of the European Research Council (ERC). This independent body defines the scientific strategy of the ERC, the main European organization funding frontier research.
A professor at the University of Grenoble Alpes since 1989, Michel Campillo is recognized for his work on the propagation of seismic waves and passive imaging of rapid changes in the Earth’s mechanical properties. His research, conducted in close collaboration with physicists and mathematicians, has been honored with two ERC Advanced Grants, the Beno Gutenberg Medal from the European Geosciences Union, and the CNRS Silver Medal. He is also a member of the French Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union.
This appointment highlights the scientific excellence of ISTerre and its international influence in the field of Earth sciences, underscoring the central role of its researchers in European and global research programs. His term on the ERC Scientific Council will begin on 1 January 2026 for an initial period of four years.
