Cement and Lime Without CO₂ Emissions : Myth or Reality ?

Today, the production of cement and lime accounts for nearly 8% of global CO₂ emissions. In response to this major challenge, an article by German Montes Hernandez, published on echosciences-grenoble.fr, highlights an innovative solution developed by a team of researchers in Grenoble.


Their approach is based on a process that allows these materials to be produced without direct CO₂ emissions, by capturing the gas as it is formed and converting it into valuable solid compounds. This system could therefore significantly reduce the sector’s carbon footprint.


While this advancement is technically promising, its implementation at industrial scale still needs to be demonstrated.
