As part of the 2026 Fête de la Science, ISTerre scientists invite you to discover Earth sciences from a different perspective! From 2 to 12 October 2026, join us for a range of activities, workshops, talks and tours organised by ISTerre teams and their partners in Grenoble, Chambéry and Annecy..
Whether you’re curious, passionate about science, or simply keen to learn more about our planet, come and meet our scientists, talk to them, and discover their research.

Riskocity: An Immersive Experience at the Heart of Natural Hazards
Friday 3 and Saturday 4 October – La Turbine, Annecy
A new mayor has just been elected in Riskocity! Taking her new role very seriously, she wants to learn more about the city and the risks that threaten the safety of its residents. To do so, the mayor calls on an investigator to identify the city’s potential hazards.
From the volcano to the ski resort and the Earth sciences laboratory, every location must be thoroughly investigated to uncover the secrets they hold…
The Riskocity game was designed to raise players’ awareness of the different major hazards that municipalities may face, while showing them where to find reliable information and resources on the subject.

Make the most of your lunch break to feed both your mind and your appetite! Led by scientists, these fun and engaging sessions are open to everyone and feature a variety of science-themed activities.
At the Heart of Mountain Glaciers: Using a realistic model of an Alpine landscape, discover how scientists study mountain glaciers and avalanche risks. This workshop will teach you how to read and interpret an Alpine landscape while exploring the instruments, measurements and methods used by researchers in the field.
– Workshop led by scientists from l’Institut des Géosciences de l’Environnement (IGE).
CO₂ Capture: What if we could close the carbon cycle by capturing CO₂ and then directly converting it for other applications? Discover a project being explored in the campus laboratories and learn more about the characteristics, challenges and potential of CO₂ reuse. Workshop led by scientists d’ISTerre.
Setier: Low-Tech Sensors for Research: Come and discover a low-tech, “do-it-yourself” instrument with a modular design, just like Lego: it can be assembled, disassembled and adapted to meet the needs of researchers and users. Don’t forget your smartphone—you’ll be able to interact with the instrument!

The Fascinating World of Biodiversity: How do scientists observe and study living species, from plants and insects to birds and other often elusive animals? Come and test your knowledge: can you guess which species is hiding under the microscope or behind a sound recording?

Chambéry Science Village
Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 2–6 p.m.
Can earthquakes be predicted? Why do they occur, and where? What impact do they have on buildings? What types of volcanic eruptions can we predict? Do you know how many volcanoes there are on Earth’s surface? How do folds and faults form? These are just some of the questions driving research at d’ISTerre. Come along and experiment with earthquakes, build your own folds, and record your own vibrations.

Talk
Cadmium in Chocolate
Monday, 5 October, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
What are the sources of cadmium exposure in our diet? And how can we limit our exposure? In this talk, Géraldine Sarret, an environmental geochemist, and Fabien Letort, a PhD student at ISTerre, will take a closer look at chocolate, which makes a minor contribution to cadmium intake in our diet. Follow cadmium’s journey from the soil to cocoa beans and discover the research being carried out to better understand and limit this transfer into our food.
