1975–2025 : 50th Anniversary of the Creation of LGIT in Grenoble

The Laboratory of Internal Geophysics and Tectonophysics (LGIT) was founded half a century ago in Grenoble. It brought together a small group of young geophysicists and tectonophysicists who would lay the foundations for the development of the physics of Earth’s interior at the University of Grenoble.

Fifty years later, the scope of research and teaching has greatly expanded, but we would like to pay an informal tribute to the founders of LGIT.

This tribute will take place at ISTerre (Kilian amphitheater) on Friday, October 17, 2025. It will take the form of presentations prepared by young members of ISTerre, focusing on seven themes initiated by the founders of LGIT :

  • Deep Earth
  • Seismotectonics
  • Tectonophysics
  • Sources and Risks
  • Field Instrumentation and Data
  • Environment and Transition

    • They will show how the work, ideas, and resources of the founders laid the groundwork for today’s research and challenges.
