Karst 2025 – Exploring the French Karst : Field Excursion by the French Karstology Association

The Karst 2025, organized by the French Karstology Association, will take place from September 19 to 21 in the Northern Vercors (Sassenage, Autrans, Villard-de-Lans, Saint-Nizier).

This iconic massif, shaped by millions of years of karstification, will be explored through field excursions, cave visits (Cuves de Sassenage, Gouffre Berger, Grotte Favot, and more), and spectacular panoramas. The event will also provide an opportunity to share recent research findings, including an ongoing PhD study on karstification in the northern Vercors.




Quick Overview of the Program

  • Friday, September 19 – History, Speleological Exploration, and Major Karst Networks
    Visit the Cuves de Sassenage, hike up La Molière, and explore the Sornin area and Gouffre Berger.
  • Saturday, September 20 – Ancient Karstification and the Incision of the Gorges de la Bourne
    Visits to Grotte Roche, Fenêtre 4, and Grotte Favot.
  • Sunday, September 21 – Karst and Quaternary Glaciation
    Panoramic views of the Canyon de l’Ours, Saint-Nizier plateau, Guillets moraine, Cluse de Voreppe, and Canyon du Curé.
