Activity and focal mechanism of deep low-frequency earthquakes beneath Mt. Fuji revealed through waveform classification

Deep low-frequency earthquakes (DLFs) are the earliest precursors of volcanic eruptions, and their monitoring is crucial for early disaster preparedness. However, in many cases, the relationship between DLF activity and eruptions or volcanic unrest remains unclear, limiting their application in hazard mitigation. In this study, we classified DLFs beneath Mt. Fuji using waveform correlation and examined the activity and focal mechanisms of each group. This approach enabled a more detailed understanding of their spatio-temporal characteristics and source mechanisms, and revealed previously unrecognized relationships with other volcanic phenomena. I will present these findings and discuss their implications.
