Continuous observation
To support its research with observational data, ISTerre, as the local operator of the Observatoire des Sciences de l’Univers de Grenoble (OSUG) for the solid Earth, is involved in the National Observation Services (SNO) of the Institut Terre-Univers of CNRS, in the management of the geological heritage of Université Grenoble Alpes, and in the observation of the Earth’s magnetic field with the support of the Centre National d’Études Spatiales (CNES). Our involvement serves the entire French scientific community or is undertaken at the initiative of specific researchers or teams. It strengthens our collective ability to monitor and analyze over long timescales the evolution of the geological Earth, major natural phenomena with potentially devastating effects (volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides, glaciers), and processes associated with the Earth’s magnetic field.
