Deformation and Geodesy

Station GNSS de Alpes d’Huez (Isère)
ISTerre/OSUG manages around thirty GNSS stations distributed across the Northern Alps. Continuous measurement of the positions of GNSS beacons installed at various locations in the Alps allows monitoring of the slow deformation of the mountain range.

This deformation results in moderate but regular seismicity. Accurate quantification (±0.1 mm/year) of this deformation requires high-quality observations over a significant period (at least 5 to 10 years). Measuring this deformation provides valuable insights into local seismicity and the formation of the mountain range.
