They are essential for understanding, modeling, and anticipating the natural processes observable at the Earth’s surface. By providing deeper insights into the formation, evolution, and variability of the Earth system, these observations represent a fundamental and structuring activity of the laboratory’s research.

Through a combination of in situ and satellite observations, ISTerre strives to detect precursor signals and to better anticipate major natural phenomena

This research also contributes to the development of monitoring tools, early warning systems, and decision-support instruments for risk management, while also informing training, awareness-raising, and preparedness initiatives for societies facing such hazards.
