Description du projet

We propose to test new high-resolution digital approaches (terrestrial LIDAR HR and lake acoustic geophysical prospecting) to improve our knowledge of the archaeological and seismic sector of Villards d’Héria, in the Jura. This site is an ideal case study for discussing the impact of an ancient earthquake on an archaeological site in mainland France. In addition to the recording of a "zero" state and the 3D restitution of seismic damage to the archaeological structure, prospecting and exploration of as yet unknown remains will be possible thanks to the very high-resolution 25cm LIDAR data already available. The project involves archaeologists, architects and geophysicists. The Vuache fault runs right through the lower site of the balneaires, and limits the southern flank of the lake for the upper site. This fault was the source of the 1996 Epagny earthquake much further south in Savoie, but is not yet mapped as active in the area. This project will be conducted in close collaboration with the Villards d’Héria Collective Research Project (SRA Jura), and the USMB CARRTEL laboratory team, and will therefore benefit from an existing research dynamic, as well as diverse archaeological and geophysical knowledge, justifying its display on the transverse theme.
