Project description
Recent studies (BQR 2023 publication, Lallemand et al., 2024) have demonstrated the archaeoseismic potential of the Villards d’Héria archaeological zone (Jura, France). Our project proposes to relate the deformations and disorders observed on the archaeological structure to the seismic activity of the north-west beam of the Vuache fault. We plan to characterize this seismic activity via deformation analysis, which will be based on a multiscalar approach, ranging from the scale of the Villards d’Héria archaeological site to a regional scale. It will be carried out using approaches combining 3D surveys (microtopography) of the remains, geomorphological analyses, analyses of sedimentary archives and re-crystallized fault plane calcites, the chronology of which will be constrained by dating (U/Th, 14C) for which we are requesting this financial support. In France, the Villards d’Héria site provides an opportunity to observe the direct damage to archaeological structures caused by a fault that has ruptured at the surface.
