Our Mission

ISTerre studies the Earth from geological, physical, and chemical perspectives by combining observations, experiments, and modeling. The laboratory manages national observation services of CNRS Terre-Univers as well as the seismic data center Epos-France.

ISTerre researchers are actively involved in teaching and training at l’Université Grenoble Alpes (UGA) and l’Université Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), through lectures, supervision of internships and theses, and the co-development of academic programs integrating the latest scientific advances. This engagement ensures high-quality education, closely linked to the laboratory’s research activities, and offers students a stimulating, dynamic, and field-oriented environment.

Finally, for external audiences, including partners, supervisory bodies, students, and the public, ISTerre aims to connect its interdisciplinary research to major societal challenges. These exchanges, at the interface of science and society, are particularly intended to address concrete issues closely related to science, technology, and society.
