The lab at a glance
The Institute of Earth Sciences (ISTerre) is a joint research unit (UGA/ CNRS/ USMB / IRD/ UGE) based at Université Grenoble Alpes (Grenoble, France) and Université Savoie Mont Blanc (Chambéry, France).
As a member of the Observatory of Earth Sciences of Grenoble (OSUG) and the PAGE research cluster (Physics of Particles, Astrophysics, Geosciences, Environment and Ecology), ISTerre brings together expertise across disciplines to better understand the Earth and its dynamics.
The institute is also affiliated with the PhITEM Department (Physics, Engineering, Earth, Environment, Mechanics) at Université Grenoble Alpes, strengthening its role at the interface of geosciences, engineering, and environmental studies.

Observation
As a member of the Observatory of Earth Sciences of Grenoble (OSUG), ISTerre teams play a key role in the development and management of field observation and measurement instruments. These instruments are deployed either permanently as part of the National Observation Services (SNO-INSU), or temporarily during specific scientific campaigns. The teams also conduct research in geochemistry and mineralogy using their analytical platforms, and they oversee the promotion of the geological collections of Université Grenoble Alpes. In addition, ISTerre contributes to the management and dissemination of major scientific databases, thereby strengthening accessibility and knowledge sharing, in line with the principles of Open Science and the FAIRification of scientific data.
