Some interesting seismicity in northern South America and why we should go out and put seismometers

Colombia is surrounded by three major plates, Nazca, Caribbean and of course the South American plate. The history of the relative positions of these three plates is still a matter of debate, but worst of all, the present day position of the plates in 3D is not completely clear. Is the Caribbean subducting beneath South America? What is the northernmost part of the Nazca plate? I hope to show the audience a few examples of interesting seismic behavior that has the potential to help understand the present day tectonic setting, and hopefully go back in time. One way to better constrain the tectonic setting is to deploy dense temporary seismic networks, maybe using lower-cost Nodal instruments.
