Environmental Seismology: advanced methods for studying Earth surface processes
vendredi 27 septembre 2024 - 11h00

The study of Earth surface processes is crucial for understanding landscape evolution, mitigating natural hazards, and addressing climate change impacts. However, sparse or surface-based measurements often provide limited temporal and spatial information on the initiation, location, and characteristics of these processes. In my talk, I will discuss how advanced seismic methods, such as seismic interferometry, beamforming, and machine learning provide new observations and enhance our understanding of the mechanical and hydraulic processes driving glacier and mass movement dynamics. I will also briefly introduce the ERC-Starting Grant project "UNREST", which aims to quantify, monitor, and identify precursors of rapid erosion dynamics associated with landslides and floods with greatly enhanced spatio-temporal resolution by developing a novel integrated framework based on seismology, mechanics, and hydrology.
