RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
My scientific career is broadly rooted in the study of acoustic and elastic waves. Initially trained in mechanics, I specialised in solving inverse problems for imaging structures in which waves propagate. Since the physics of waves is governed by the same fundamental laws across different propagation scales, I naturally became interested in several topics spanning wave physics, from the millimetre scale (ultrasound) to the kilometre scale (seismic waves).

My PhD research, supervised by Michel Castaings at the Laboratoire de Mécanique Physique, University of Bordeaux (09/2004–08/2007), focused on developing numerical strategies for modelling ultrasonic non-destructive testing (NDT) problems in thin structures.

I then pursued my career through two postdoctoral positions. The first (03/2008–07/2011) was at the University of Bristol, UK, where I worked on ultrasonic imaging for NDT. The second (09/2011–11/2012) was at the Laboratoire d’Imagerie Paramétrique (now the Laboratoire d’Imagerie Biomédicale), affiliated with Université Paris 6, where I worked on medical acoustics for characterising bone properties using ultrasound, in the context of osteoporosis diagnosis. My scientific career also included an eight-month position at the CEA (12/2012–07/2013), at the Saclay site, where I worked as a research engineer in NDT at the Laboratoire d’Intégration des Systèmes et des Technologies.

Through these research experiences, I developed strong expertise in wave physics in complex media at the ultrasonic scale. My recruitment in September 2013 into the Waves and Structures team at ISTerre was therefore accompanied by a shift towards geophysics. My research activity naturally developed around the many methodological links between the ultrasonic scale (NDT) and geophysics (seismology, civil engineering hazards, etc.). I am interested both in methodological developments, such as array processing for imaging and artificial intelligence, and in innovative approaches to instrumentation, such as optical fibre sensing (Distributed Acoustic Sensing), as well as optical methods such as LIDAR and the use of drones for video-based motion measurements.

Since obtaining my Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) in 2019, my research has focused more specifically on Arctic sea ice. I develop passive monitoring methods to characterise its thickness, rheological properties, and evolution in response to geophysical forcing in the context of climate change. This research has been supported by two ANR grants : the JCJC project ICEWAVEGUIDE (2018–2023), and the Multiscale Sea Ice Monitoring project, funded through the 2023 Generic Call for Proposals (PRC).
