Research interests

Structure and reactivity of amorphous and nanocrystalline materials. X-ray and neutron Pair Distribution Function (PDF) analyses.

Mechanisms of homogeneous and heterogeneous nucleation: role of amorphous precursors, pre-nucleation clusters and aggregation-based nucleation and growth. Impact of nano-confinement on the thermodynamics and kinetics of mineral nucleation in pore spaces. In situ SAXS and GISAXS experiments.

Hydrophilicity / hydrohobicity of mineral surfaces. Water structure at mineral-water interfaces. Inelastic neutron scattering.

Interfacial geochemistry: in-situ studies of dissolution processes using X-ray reflectivity. Environmental mineralogy: EXAFS and differential PDF studies of ion adsorption at the mineral-water interface.

Molecular modeling applied to the study of interfacial geochemistry. DFT-based (DMol3, CASTEP..) and classical force-field simulations (LAMMPS).
