Research

My research deals with the numerical simulation of seismic wave propagation (mainly at the regional/local scales). My interests include seismic hazard assessment (estimation of earthquake ground motion including site effects, site-structure interaction), and the characterization of the heterogeneous Earth.

**Earthquake Ground Motion

Snapshot of horizontal ground velocity in the Grenoble valley caused by a M6 event located on the ’Belledonne Border Fault’. The simulation is based upon the spectral element method and is accurate up to 2 Hz. It includes the effect of surface topography and makes use of a simplified 3D model of the sediment filling of the valley, with shear wave velocities of 200 m/s at the surface of the model. Note the amplification of ground motion in the valley and the generation of secondary surface waves at the edges of the valley. For details, see Chaljub et al., 2010, BSSA.
