Peter VAN DER BEEK

Research Interests

I am a tectonic geomorphologist interested in the tectonic and climatic controls on relief development and erosion rates, in particular in mountain belts. To elucidate and understand these controls, I combine numerical modelling of erosional processes and long-term landscape development with the quantification of exhumation and erosion histories using low-temperature thermochronology and cosmogenic nuclides.

I have worked extensively in the European Alps, the Pyrenees and the Himalaya, in the framework of several national and European research projects. I also have active collaborations with researchers and former students in Venezuela, Iran and China.
