Explosions in Beirut: how did you react?

Following the explosions of August 4, 2020 in Beirut (Lebanon), researchers from the PACTE, LIG and ISTERRE laboratories of CDP RISK and Lebanese researchers gathered within the Lebanese French-Lebanese Environmental Observatory O-Life, have worked together to launch an online survey among the people who felt the explosions in the port of the Lebanese capital. Discovery of the first animal fossil in a gem opal

An international team led by scientists from the Isterre laboratory / OSUG (UGA-CNRS-USMB-IRD-Université Gustave Eiffel) studied the first animal fossil contained in a gem opal from Indonesia. Oceanic mercury concentrations on both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar decreased between 1989 and 2012

This is the result obtained thanks to the collaboration of the Geochemistry team of ISTerre, Ifremer (French Institute for the Sustainable Exploitation of the Sea) and CNR (Italian National Research Council). These results suggest that regulations to reduce anthropogenic Hg emissions have had a positive effect on Hg contamination in parts of the marine environment.

The earth sciences MEET project awarded the ERC Synergy Grant 2019

ISTerre publishes its Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory

Public institutions with more than 250 employees are required to carry out a GHG inventory and propose actions to reduce their emissions. This applies to ISTerre’s tutelles, namely CNRS, IGA, IRD and IFSSTAR.
